In November, our partners at the University of Illinois-Chicago's Rafael Cintrón Ortiz Latino Cultural Center will conclude this fall's series of virtual presentations and dialogues exploring themes from their local story, "Resisting Cycles of Environmental Injustice in Little Village."

Wednesday, November 11th, 4:30pm-5:30pm (Central Time) — Jessie Fuentes of Chicago's Puerto Rican Cultural Center will discuss Puerto Rico’s reconstruction process after several hurricanes and the COVID-19 pandemic devastated the island. People have had to endure an exhausting, draining, and daunting recovery process that is rooted in our history of slavery and racism, where powerful and rich industries see the reconstruction of Puerto Rico as a means to assert more power and increase profits.

Wednesday, November 18th, 4:30pm-5:30pm (Central Time) — Cheryl Johnson with People for Community Recovery (CPR) will present on the organization's community organizing and advocacy efforts in the Altgeld Gardens public housing project on Chicago's South Side. After the passing of her mother, the late Hazel Johnson, known nationally and internationally as the mother of environmental justice, Cheryl Johnson and CPR have continued to address environmental racism and climate justice.
